Universities Turn to Dialpad to Set Communications Foundation for the Campus of the Future

Cloud-based Dialpad Provides Staff and Students With a Single, System-wide Voice and Collaboration Solution to Increase Effective Engagement

SAN FRANCISCO - April 25, 2016 - Dialpad, a leader in Modern Business Communications, today announced that two institutions of higher education are deploying Dialpad to empower their staff and students with a unified communications suite that supports internal and external communications via voice, SMS, MMS, and group messaging, meetings, and that can be integrated with Google Apps for Work and Microsoft Office 365. The institutions are Ohio’s Denison University and West Virginia’s Pierpont Community and Technical College. In related news, Dialpad will be exhibiting at Aspire to Connect, ACUTA’s 45th Annual Conference and Exhibition, April 24-27, 2016 in San Diego, Booth 613.

Most education institutions today have been saddled with an aging communications infrastructure – including the nearly useless desk phone – that limits the ability of staff and students to leverage modern forms of engagement and support the evolving educational environment. Similar to what businesses have experienced, modern students and professors have adopted cloud tools on their own, creating significant communications challenges for their institutions and driving adoption of cloud infrastructures. According to a report from MeriTalk, a public-private partnership focused on improving the outcomes of government IT, 80 percent of higher ed IT executives surveyed say their network is increasingly complex, driven by an increased use of mobile devices and mobility requirements, increased diversity of IT needs among end users, and an increased number of applications. As a result, these institutions are looking for solutions that will dramatically simplify cloud adoption and help them better leverage the cloud to bring value to their communities.

“Communication is the lifeblood of campus life, and we have created a solution that addresses some of the toughest communication challenges that educational institutions face,” said Craig Walker, CEO of Dialpad. “Dialpad will help staff engage in entirely new ways with each other, students, alumni, partners and the public to help them increase engagement, forge stronger and longer-lasting ties, and ensure the institution retains its status as a source of inspiration, innovation, leadership, and a true sense of community.”

Campus Profiles

Located in Granville, Ohio, Denison University, which ranks 39th in the 2016 Ranking of Best National Liberal Arts Colleges, has more than 2,200 students and a student/faculty ratio of 9:1. Dialpad enables proactive, one-on-one engagement with students through voice, text, and video messaging, and works seamlessly with Google Apps for Work. Dialpad also provides the ability to see insights at the campus, department and staff level, delivering greater context for data to make it actionable—all in real-time.

“Higher education is experiencing a period of unprecedented change as we shift from the old on-premises world to a digital workplace, and colleges and universities seeking to thrive, or even simply survive, in this environment must find new ways to support our community’s demand for high-quality, highly-personalized services that help faculty, staff and students engage more effectively,” said Dena Speranza, CIO of Denison University. “An efficient and easy-to-use communication system is a must-have for every higher education institution, and Dialpad is an innovative solution that truly enables CIOs to execute on their communications and productivity vision.”

Dialpad, built on a massively scalable modern architecture, provides a foundational infrastructure for the campus of the future, replacing the PBX and separate point solutions with a single, system-wide, pure-cloud solution that lets employees communicate by any channel they want – voice, messaging, video, conferencing – using any device. Dialpad can be integrated with Google Apps for Work and Microsoft Office 365 for seamless access to contacts, calendars and email. Dialpad has also developed a set of best practices tailored specifically for institutions of higher education, enabling even multi-campus institutions to rapidly deploy modern cloud communications in a matter of days. The entire multi-campus Dialpad deployment can be managed from a single location.

"As a Community College, flexibility, mobility and availability are essential to our mission. Dialpad allows the IT staff to manage provisioning and de-provisioning of users with minimal effort. It also increases the availability and flexibility of our employees communications with students while protecting employee privacy.,” said Rob Linger, CIO at Pierpont Community and Technical College. “Dialpad is enabling us to quickly and significantly reduce the cost of our communications infrastructure and leverage the cloud to engage students, alumni, peers, and partners more effectively using the channels and devices that work best for them."
